I’m not mad at Sammy. I can’t relate but I understand why people would want to lighten their skin. I’m the opposite. I go tanning any chance I get. In every part of the Black World there are people using ridiculous and dangerous chemicals to lighten their skin. It makes me sad because I love black. I love black so black its blue.
I heard on the news this morning that Sosa is considering marketing this product he used. Being the official spokesperson for a deep seeded self-hatred that millions of Black people have for themselves. Sadly, I think the product would be a hit. Who doesn’t want to be lighter, make things easier, right? Being from the Dominican Republic, Sosa was born into a group of people that refuse to acknowledge their Black heritage. Much like Brazil and many regions of South America. In many of these places Black is synonymous with poor, dirty and unrecognized in society - in other words nothing anyone wants to be.
White supremacy is an ideology that stretches much further than the (US)American terrorist organization, the kkk. White Supremacy is a universal virus that has destroyed people of Black and Brown decent. It’s killed us, erased our history, enslaved us, raped us, lightened our skin, terrorized our minds and shunned our culture. There is just a little part of me that is patiently waiting, praying and hoping that one day, one day soon, we’ll stop hating ourselves and start hating the system that put us here.
I’m not mad at Sosa, I’m mad at the system that got us here.
I saw this picture the other day and failed to recognize it was Sammy Sosa. I thought it was some bleaching Indian dude, lol
I will give you an example of how race affects my life. I live in a place called Alpine, New Jersey. Live in Alpine, New Jersey, right? My house costs millions of dollars. Don’t hate the player, hate the game. In my neighborhood, there are four black people. Hundreds of houses, four black people. Who are these black people? Well, there’s me, Mary J. Blige, Jay-Z and Eddie Murphy. Only black people in the whole neighborhood. So let’s break it down, let’s break it down: me, I’m a decent comedian. I’m a’ight. Mary J. Blige, one of the greatest R&B singers to ever walk the Earth. Jay-Z, one of the greatest rappers to ever live. Eddie Murphy, one of the funniest actors to ever, ever do it. Do you know what the white man who lives next door to me does for a living? He’s a fucking dentist! He ain’t the best dentist in the world…he ain’t going to the dental Hall of Fame…He don’t get plaques for getting rid of plaque. He’s just a yank-your-tooth-out dentist. See, the black man gotta fly to get to something’ the white man can walk to.
Bigler ran a study in which children read brief biographies of famous African-Americans. For instance, in a biography of Jackie Robinson, they read that he was the first African-American in the major leagues. But only half read about how he’d previously been relegated to the Negro Leagues, and how he suffered taunts from white fans. Those facts—in five brief sentences were omitted in the version given to the other children. After the two-week history class, the children were surveyed on their racial attitudes. White children who got the full story about historical discrimination had significantly better attitudes toward blacks than those who got the neutered version. Explicitness works. “It also made them feel some guilt,” Bigler adds. “It knocked down their glorified view of white people.” They couldn’t justify in-group superiority.Bigler ran a study in which children read brief biographies of famous African-Americans.
Walked into the Warren to perform and had one of the best sets I’ve had in a while thanks to some help from a not-so-silent audience member that gave me a hilarious riff for about a minute or so. Even though I was only on stage for 6 min I think I took advantage of just about every moment.
Tonight was my 96th peformance and I’ve grown sooo much since my humble beginnings (I’m still in those beginnnings). I can’t wait to see where I’ll be by 300. Anyway, 3 comics after my performance Ron White comes out from behind the curtain to perform and you could feel the energy in the room rise. Now a little background, this was @ The Warren in Virginia Highlands, which is one of the best local showcase rooms in Atlanta… but not a place where big names come through. So Ron White bein a surprise act tonight was kind of a big deal since someone on his level has never been through. Needless to say it was a great show and now I can say I opened for Ron White (albeit accidentally, but that’s only for you ODumblrs to know). Yes you read right, I Odinaka Ezeokoli, single-handedly integrated the Blue Collar Comedy Tour. Had to put a lil Green White and Green in there, haha. I”m tired excuse the typos. Good night.
Performin in Milledgeville tonight (ie Friday, April 3) for all my GCSU and Milly family. Blackbird Coffee, 9 p.m. Peace & God bless
