The War

I have a complex about whether or not I should reblog every post I “like” w/ the heart icon.  On one hand my mind’s like,

Post it! Post it! Post it! You liked it, let everyone else see it too!”

And the other side’s like,

“Hey, slow down there buddy, you just posted some other cool stuff you liked a couple hours ago. Why spam your own tumblr?”

Then the first side retaliates,

“Hey buddy, watch your mouth! It’s not spam, I just like alot of things and I don’t mind sharing!” and then both sides start calling each other names like, “Spammer!” and

Tumblr hermit!” I don’t know which side to choose….it’s a constant battle.

Wild dogs that commute from suburbs to scavenge in city The clever canines board the Tube each morning. After a hard day scavenging and begging on the streets, they hop back on the train and return to the suburbs where they spend the night.
Experts studying the dogs say they even work together to make sure they get off at the right stop — after learning to judge the length of time they need to spend on the train. The mutts choose the quietest carriages at the front and back of the train. They have also developed tactics to hustle humans into giving them more food on the streets of Moscow.
Dr Poiarkov told how the dogs like to play during their daily commute. He said: “They jump on the train seconds before the doors shut, risking their tails getting jammed. They do it for fun. And sometimes they fall asleep and get off at the wrong stop.” The dogs have learned to use traffic lights to cross the road safely, said Dr Poiarkov. And they use cunning tactics to obtain tasty morsels of shawarma, a kebab-like snack popular in Moscow.

I never liked dogs as a kid (OK, I was afraid of dogs) but the older I get the more I’ve warmed up to them (don’t tell anyone though).

Richard Pryor at 24, Kraft Music Hall Special. 1964

If you wanna hear the evolution of a great go get the CD, “Evolution/Revolution: The Early Years 1964-1974.“  You can hear Pryor grow from the clean Cosby-esque man you see above to the provocative, cutting edge comic he’s remembered as.  And if you’re not interested in any of that don’t worry it’s still plain hilarious.

Shout Out

Did an open mic at Java Lord’s coffeehouse in Little Five Points tonight.  This is a majority musicians open mic (w/ a poet here or there) but every now and then a comic like myself’ll slip in the mix.  I like performing in rooms like these because I get to see how the crowd responds to my jokes when they’re not necessarily expecting to hear a comedian.  It’s kinda like punching someone in the back of the head and then checking the front of their face to see if you broke their nose.  Your goal is to break the nose but you’re taking a round about way to do it…wait, NO. Bad example. Moving on.

I didn’t get on stage til 12 a.m. (show started at 9) and the coffee shop stragglers were tired. I did my thing though the audience was a 5 (ie on a scale from 1 to 10, at that point in the night the maximum response I could muster from that crowd was a 5….so if I actually got a 5 response out of them it would be like getting a 10 response cuz they’d actually be responding at their max given the circumstances.  Make sense? I didn’t think so).  Anyway, I say all this to give a shout out to my new homeboy, Hamilton Solomon, who kept dying w/ laughter in a half-filled room full of silent chuckles while I was on stage.  You really kept me going, man! You cool w/me, even though you talk just like your name sounds, lol J/P

Peace

Anybody ever played Whirly ball before?  I did for the first time tonight. It’s a fun game! It’s basically like lacrosse w/ go-carts.  I’ll have to admit, when my friend invited me to come play my first though was, “Whirly ball???? are these white folks tryna take me on a  snipe hunt?”  But alas I googled the game and all my fears were gone.  Side note: I love shit talking in a go-cart.
I gotta get my Naija crew together to play this summer. If you ever get the chance to play do it.
