I’m not mad at Sammy. I can’t relate but I understand why people would want to lighten their skin. I’m the opposite. I go tanning any chance I get. In every part of the Black World there are people using ridiculous and dangerous chemicals to lighten their skin. It makes me sad because I love black. I love black so black its blue.
I heard on the news this morning that Sosa is considering marketing this product he used. Being the official spokesperson for a deep seeded self-hatred that millions of Black people have for themselves. Sadly, I think the product would be a hit. Who doesn’t want to be lighter, make things easier, right? Being from the Dominican Republic, Sosa was born into a group of people that refuse to acknowledge their Black heritage. Much like Brazil and many regions of South America. In many of these places Black is synonymous with poor, dirty and unrecognized in society - in other words nothing anyone wants to be.
White supremacy is an ideology that stretches much further than the (US)American terrorist organization, the kkk. White Supremacy is a universal virus that has destroyed people of Black and Brown decent. It’s killed us, erased our history, enslaved us, raped us, lightened our skin, terrorized our minds and shunned our culture. There is just a little part of me that is patiently waiting, praying and hoping that one day, one day soon, we’ll stop hating ourselves and start hating the system that put us here.
I’m not mad at Sosa, I’m mad at the system that got us here.

I saw this picture the other day and failed to recognize it was Sammy Sosa. I thought it was some bleaching Indian dude, lol

Kanye on SNL back in (judging from the haircut I’m gonna guess) 2007 parodying himself interrupting award shows.  Hilarious. Shout to smeli for pointing me to this.

Clearly Kanye is a professional at interrupting award shows.  MTV knows this (remember, MTV show incidents have been staged in the past) and no one from last night’s incident went home a loser.

Kanye stuck up for his big bro’s girl

People like me who never cared about Taylor Swift had to sit through the chorus of her song and say things like, “Well, you know, she’s not bad…”  In turn she gains fans and sympathizers alike.

Beyonce got to look like an angel.

People that hate Kanye were provided with more reason to hate Kanye.

People that love Kanye’s antics got more reason to like him

“And the White man [MTV] get paid off of all of that” ~ Mr. West, All Falls Down

Wins for everyone!

Definitiely no excuse for numerous statements like this:

Crazy racist person

Mariana van Zeller (via Chinatown, Africa // Current)

“In “Chinatown, Africa”, Vanguard correspondent Mariana van Zeller travels to Angola to investigate China’s rapidly growing presence in Africa. While many welcome China’s investment, others see reason for concern. Chinatown, Africa is revealing look at a growing superpower’s adventures abroad.”

I hope you can watch this video and see the exciting pros and tragic cons of China’s influence in Africa particularly in a country like Angola, which represents a large percentage of China’s investments. Not without reason, of course, Angola is rich in raw materials that China desperately needs. One factor in particular stood out, for me. For decades infrastructure has been the missing link in development and relations with the West, but in months the Chinese are able to bridge the gap (roads connecting the interior to major cities, hospitals, schools, etc.). The problem, however, is that they do so with Chinese labor and Chinese machinery. Ironically the raw materials for those machines come from Africa but are not made there because many (Western and Eastern) trade policies restrict African countries from manufacturing and producing such goods. This video highlights the cost of with doing business with China, especially in a places like Angola where resources, poverty and opportunity are plentiful. -Mz. Report
