Running With Scissors Show
I hope y’all got the take home message of the above. If you’re ever running and there are scissors in your hand, JUST-PUT-THEM-DOWN! Leave the dangerous stuff to us.
Every first Thursday of the month I’ll be putting together the Running with Scissors Show at Estoria (East Atlanta, Cabbagetown to be specific) showcasing the A’s deep variety of comedy talent.

Estoria is already a cool hang out that’ll be a cool new place for comedy too. Our first run of the show was in the beginning of October and we had a great turn out. Hoping for a good second go! Our next show is Thursday, November 5th
727 Wylie St, Atlanta, Ga
I’ll be hosting a real funny group of cats:
Andy Sanford- 1/4 of the Beards of Comedy and a brilliant comedy writer
Eric McGee- Super laid back. Feeds the audience jokes like an IV- very subtle
Justin Morgan- Class president of Atlanta comedy. You’ll want to watch for him.
Karen Hilton- Just pay attention and you’ll be rolling in no time. One word, clever.
Matt Pharr- Some of the best stories on and off stage. I’ve never not been entertained by Matt Pharr
Sean Wilkinson- Running With Scissors will be proud to have this funny guy from Boston as our guest for the evening.
Tanner Inman- Tanner is part of a comedy group called The Lost Comics and their tagline is, “Like seeing stand up comedy for the first time.” That’s better than i could have said it.
The Running With Scissors comedy show is tonight at 9! We’ve got some really funny folks lined up for y’all tonight. No cover, priceless fun.

Atlanta, Help Me Help You Make Your Thursday Better
What’s up, guys

The Running With Scissors Comedy Show is this Thursday, October 1st. I was gonna say this is a warning but I guess I should use the traditional term and say, invitation. If you’re against fun you probably shouldn’t come but I know you’re not one of those people . This Thursday just got better, all you have to do is show up.
No Cover
9 pm at Estoria
727 Wylie St,
Atlanta, Ga 30316
I’ll be hosting a small crew of hilarious folks:
April Boddy… Does comedy good (see what I did there)
Cris Gray… The other token meat
Dan Weeks… The face of Shark Week
Eric McGee… Bringing light skinned back one joke at a time.
The Gallois Bros… Funnier than the Mario bros in every way
Zaurito… How to speak Russian in 10 minutes
$6 Pitchers of PBR for everyone that loves Pabst (Don’t front for the internet, you know…)
I’ll do 5 jumping jacks if I see you there.
Peace
The State of Georgia needs to stop treating Atlanta like a wicked stepchild. She’s one of the jewels of this state and brings commerce to outlying regions within the state. The city deserves respect. FUND MARTA. Stop being dumb.

Jody Breeze dissing Jeezy? Noise in the Hood!
At least give us a decent verse, man. Remember when folks where comparing Jody to T.I.?
A group that does work with school systems but is diverse and believes in diversity as well as in celebrating ethnic cultures and their history is Projectsouth. Project South is based right here in Atlanta and they work more from the scope of social awareness and as advocates for disenfranchised groups like those with disabilities, illness, victims of gender/race/sexuality based marginalization, etc:
Founded in 1986, Project South acts as a regional hub for leadership development, movement-building, and long-term strategy development within community-based organizing for racial and economic justice. By creating collective spaces for communities and organizations to develop bottom-up grassroots organizing models, Project South shifts Southern-based organizing from reactive battles to visionary and strategic movement building on local, regional, and national levels.
Project South works directly with young people, intergenerational collaborations, Southern-based organizations, communities affected by social control and violence, cross-regional alliances, and our Atlanta and Southeastmembership base. Our three primary strategies to increase the viability of community-based efforts to shift resources and power

There are MANY of these here in Atlanta. They do a good job with teaching kids material that is waaaaaay ahead of the curriculum in the Public school system here in the city, BUT…the few I’ve been to are racially and gender/sexuality biased as hell. They might have a few whites and latinos in them, but some of what they teach goes a bit too far for ME.
I have a problem with that. I went to a Private school in Brookyln that was West-Indian centric. We learned a lot about Island and African culture and THEY were a bit out there for me, too.
A happy medium is best. There are schools here that give that like the Nsoromma school
Some of the others? I don’t know. I asked one of their administrators if there was such a thing as a good white person and he laughed at me. I walked away.
Independent African Centered Education.
Great idea, long time coming but how feasible is it?
I know of a couple of places around Atlanta that seem to have that vibe, The Shrine of the Black Madonna in the West End, a lil elementary school (@ least I think it is) off Campbelton but can this really spread on a larger scale? Maybe it’s not meant to. Maybe not yet.
Maybe we’ll just keep having these little enclaves of schools that cater specifically to our culture in tiny niches until one day people see learning our true great history as not only legitimate but as a vital pursuit.
Man I feel you on that biased tip. I’m starting to work with a few groups around the City that want me to film promo’s for their org’s and they’re pretty much on the same empowerment tip. They have a great message to share with the people but they seem to feel white people can’t be trusted and that is a big problem with me. Where is the balance? I understand many powerful white people in the past have caused a lot of horrible problems for millions of people (and many people of all races are still doing it). But singling out the whole race is just repeating the other side of the problems that got us here. Sigh. What is it about cats that preach knowledge of black history and hating white people…must these two things really go hand in hand?
Thanks for droppin some knowledge, man. Every effort is a step in the right direction in my book. Even if there are flaws.

Confederate Memorial Day? WTF??!!
My buddy, Odinaka (OD), is a great comedian and videographer. He’s also a state employee and in Georgia they get off for ‘Confederate Memorial Day’. Did I mention that OD is black and from Nigeria? Here he makes a video asking local Atlantans if they knew what this was all about. Very funny stuff!!

My homeboy Cris Gray does improv w/ Whole World Theatre and some other groups here in Atlanta and he also tears up the scene as a comedian too.
He runs a GREAT monthly comedy spot on the first Tuesday of every month at the Highland Inn Ballroom in Virginia Highlands and he’s graciously allowed me host the May show tomorrow (May 5, 2009). Guaranteed funny, if you’re in the A support your local funny brothers, haha! & if you can’t check us out tomorrow, mark your calendar for next month.
Oh and Preciate the shout-out Cris, haha.

While everyone is watching basketball I am freaking out about Private Practice…
LOL, can’t believe I missed an amazing game to watch Private Practice w/ my bro. I feel like I woulda been better off hittin up the comedy spot at The Warren to watch my friends than stayin’ home for the night. All because I couldn’t figure what channel TNT was on, sigh. That’s what I get for avoiding TV until the playoffs, haha. Watching triple OT highlights on ESPN just doesn’t seem to do the game justice.
I am seriously rootin’ for the ‘Daaaaa Bulls’ on Saturday but I won’t be too disappointed if they lose. Thats’ gonna be a hard win. Celtics have an impeccable Game 7 playoff record (the Hawks sadly know about that first hand- 08)
& let’s hear it for the Hawks, eh? Can they get past the first round this year?
