There are those who maintain that you can’t demand anything of the reader. They say the reader knows nothing about art, and that if you are going to reach him, you have to be humble enough to descend to his level. This supposes either that the aim of art is to teach, which it is not, or that to create anything which is simply a good-in-itself is a waste of time. Art never responds to the wish to make it democratic; it is not for everybody; it is only for those who are willing to undergo the effort needed to understand it. We hear a great deal about humility being required to lower oneself, but it requires an equal humility and a real love of the truth to raise oneself and by hard labor to acquire higher standards.
Flannery O’Connor, Mystery and Manners. Catholic Novelists and Their Readers, quoted by Ms. Odradek. As is often the case, O’Connor settles this discussion for me. (via mills) (via caille)

The Punctuator…

Here’s the 2nd video* from the “How to Become Famous” series we made for A.A.C’s (Art as an Agent for Change) Poetic Notions event this Sat, April 18 at GCSU.  Dope poets+I’ll be hosting.  That is all.

*If you missed the first one…

What up.

Tomorrow, ie Friday the 20th, I’ll be hangin at the Relapse Theater performing w/ the Make Me Laugh comedy show crew & living up to the show’s name.

Next week we’ll be doing the second run of A.A.C.’s (Art as an Agent for Change) play “Where Hip Hop Lives” and I’m excited! It’s a poetisical (think musical but replace the music w/ poetry…now throw away all the thoughts of corniness and you got the idea) surrounding 2 DJ’s and their combat against their conniving boss, callers and themselves. I’m better at performing than explaining so come check it out. We’ll be in Macon on Tuesday the 24th performing at Club 567’s Poetic Peace show and then we’ll be bringing it up to Atlanta next Thurs the 26th at the Relapse Theater.

On Monday I’ll be hitting up one of my favorite comedy spots, the Star Bar, at 9 in Lil 5 Points. The place is always fun, funny and unpredictable and surprisingly I haven’t been there all year so I’ll be happy to “return.”

I”ll be ending the month doing a guest set w/ my boy Eric McGee (who will be featuring) at the Gypsy Comedy Club in St. Augustine, Fl next weekend, Feb 27 & 28.

& I’ll be doing the Funny Farm’s regional open mic show on Wed, March 4th, 8 p.m.
