Richard Pryor once said, “Search for the truth and the funny will come.” That’s what I model my comedy after. I tell the story of my life as a mixed up son of Nigerian immigrants whose spent good chunks of his childhood in America and Nigeria and try to make sense of it to myself and the world. I search for the truth in my life and in society and most of all I dig for the funny. Check out some of my comedy in the youtube vids a few blocks down on this page.

In a post racial America, you’d think racists would know how to keep it down…or at least have some theories that aren’t based on the gossip of slave traders from the 1600’s.”

-

The idea of genetic inferiority in ethnic races is such a prevalent stereotype that even James Watson, one half of the team responsible for discovering the double helix structure of DNA, has been fired on occasion for spewing such crap in his speeches.

shanaelmsford:

If you’re looking to Drake’s latest video for a clue as to who he is other than an amalgamation of his rap heroes you’re probably going to be disappointed.

Fire? Check

Stripper? Check

Contrived bravado? Check

Lil Wayne cameo? Check (although I do understand his appearance, I mean he is a third of the song.)

I’m trying hard to believe this guy is assisting hip hop, considering wocka flocka and momma wocka flocka are working hard to derail all progress, but this shit right here…

Still attempting to withhold judgment. I guess. Not really.

Lol, I like listening to Drake, he’s not bad. But I can never watch any of his videos. It’s like his white side takes over as soon as he gets on camera and he starts to trying to convince us that he really is a rapper. A lot of his verses sound very calm when you listen to them but when you watch him spit them in the video he looks like he’s doing his best King Kong impression…I don’t understand. This dude’s an actor, right…why can’t he act normal in a video?

thereasontosmile:

Not even the kingdoms of Peru and Mexico could mobilize resources and concentrate power more effectively than could some of these African monarchies, which are more to be compared with Europe of the Middle Ages than referred to the common conception of the ‘primitive state.”

-
Anthropologist, Melville J. So, if I like Monty Python, what I know the most are my favorite sketches, and if I like the Beatles, it’s probably because of my favorite songs of theirs. In a weird way, it seems like time is really kind to the person who makes a lot of things, because as time goes on, the best things seem to float to the top and those are the ones that people notice. What I extract from that is, to just make as much stuff as possible and don’t be self conscious about the quality of it. As long as you’re learning along the way, and you don’t stop making stuff, it seems like you have more chances of making the good stuff that kind of floats to the top … It seems like volume is the answer. … It’s not the deepest thing, but I have found that if I just really make a lot of stuff, then I regret less.”

- ~Demetri Martin (via SandpaperSuit)

marcellusmiller:

Doing a guest set tonight at The Seriously Funny Show….Seriously. No, I mean it. The reason you don’t see my name on the flyer is because I’m represented by the megaphones (so my name actually appears twice).

When I got off stage an older man approached me and asked, "You guys speak French in your country, right?" I told him No and didn't think much of it. Then he replied, "I'm so sorry for the tragic earthquake you guys had."

I need to take a class on how to reply to this stuff cuz I never know what to say. Just walked away.

Things I should have said:

“Here’s $5 for a map but you’ll have to pay for an internet connection on your own.”

“Would you care to donate to my relief fund? All proceeds go to educating gray haired men on how to make small talk with people that look different from them.”

“Oh, this is one of those movie moments where I become your young hip friend who educates you on the latest slang and you teach me how to pull up my pants, isn’t it?”

“There was an earthquake?”

“Sir, First thing’s first, Glenn Beck is not news…”

“No, I said I was from Nigeria….”
